How I use sources
Every article lists its sources at the bottom, each linking straight to the study. Here's how I choose them.
Primary sources first
I link to the study itself (with a DOI where one exists), never to the newspaper story about it. Norwegian figures come from the likes of the Norwegian Media Authority (Medietilsynet) and Statistics Norway (SSB), and I link straight to them too.
One study is never the whole answer
Individual studies can pull in different directions. When the research is uncertain or young, I say so in the text rather than pretending the matter is settled. And a figure I can't verify doesn't get used.
Findings and interpretation are kept apart
What the study found stands as a finding. What I make of it is marked as my own assessment. More on that in the editorial principles.
