Homie
My own app for a calmer family life: calendar, routines, tasks and a dinner plan in one place.
Roughly ages 5 and upAbout €20 a year per family member, with a free trial
I built this app myself.
Positives
- The family's entire logistics in one place: calendar, tasks, routines and a dinner plan with its shopping list. Like the whiteboard on the fridge, except always current and always in your pocket.
- Kids see their own day and tick things off themselves. The aim is for them to gradually run their own everyday life, instead of you trailing around reminding everyone of everything.
- No ads, no feed, nothing competing for attention. The app is built to stay in the background and quietly do its job.
My assessment
I built Homie because our own family needed it: a calmer way to make the household logistics work. That's why it's on this page, with the cards face up that it's my own app.
It began when our 11-year-old daughter wanted to keep track of her own days without us adults nagging. These days the app is the family's shared noticeboard, and “did you remember?” has become a much rarer question in this house.
