Positives
- Photos come out as physical prints within the minute, ready to pin up, give away or stick in an album. Not another camera roll nobody ever opens again.
- Completely analogue to use: no screen, no app, no account. The camera sorts out light and focus on its own, and there's a close-up mode and a little mirror for selfies.
- Because every shot costs a little, something nice happens to the photography: your child starts choosing a subject instead of rattling off a hundred frames.
Worth knowing
- Film is the running cost, at roughly a euro a shot. Part of the charm, but it does add up.
- The prints are small, about the size of a credit card.
My assessment
One of the loveliest presents I know of for a child who's curious about taking pictures. Photography turns into something you make rather than something you scroll. Buy a spare pack of film at the same time; the first one will be gone before the weekend is.
