Kindle Scribe

Kindle Scribe

Reading and handwritten notes on the same e-ink tablet, with no apps and no feed in sight.

Roughly ages 6 and upabout €300 with the pen

Positives
  • An e-ink screen that's restful to read on, and no notifications barging in mid-chapter.
  • The Kindle store lives on the device: a vast library, with any book landing seconds after you buy it.
  • The pen comes in the box, so your child can scribble in the margins and keep notebooks of their own alongside the reading.
  • The battery lasts for weeks.
Worth knowing
  • Norwegian books are thin on the ground in the Kindle store. In practice this will mostly be a device for reading in English.
  • It needs an Amazon account, and the store is never more than a tap away. Buying books is easier than borrowing them.
My assessment

For the child who loves to read, from reading age on up, and especially for the teenager reading in English. Reading comes first, with the notes and drawing as a happy bonus.
