Xplora X6 Play
The step between watch and phone: video calls and approved contacts, still no feed.
Roughly ages 10–12about €220, often on sale, plus a subscription
Independent recommendation. No commission.
Positives
- Video calls, messages and a camera, still restricted to contacts you've approved in the parent app.
- It rewards moving: steps become points in “Goplay”, so what your child competes over is activity, not an endless feed.
- Still no internet access, no social media and no app store, and school mode and SOS carry over.
Worth knowing
- The same compulsory subscription as the XGO3, from about €15 a month.
- About €220 is a lot for a watch your child will grow out of. Watch for sales; it's discounted regularly.
- For plenty of 11 and 12 year olds, the phone is on its way regardless. Expect the watch to be a stopover.
My assessment
The step between watch and phone, for the child who needs a bit more without you opening up the whole internet. If it buys the family an extra year or two before the smartphone, it's worth the money.
